The boy child won his pack’s Punewood Derby. Pretty awesome. He’s done it twice during his Cub Scout years. The bummer is that we now have to go to the district races. The poorly organized, never runs on time district races. We were aiming for a solid 4th place so we could hold our head high, but not go to districts.

Well, just because you won doesn’t mean you need to go. Unless you have to defend the honor of the pack.

Which one? My son’s winning car? Here it is. Super simple. Basic kit, 1.5 oz of tungsten putty in a notch underneath forward of the rear wheels. About a half once used as the canopy. Another ounce of weight mounted to the side and a quarter glued to the top. He wanted it to look like an A-Wing. Did some quick sanding / polishing of the nails and added a little graphite. That’s it.

It’s area-ruled because it travels in the transonic region.
